[Kendra hadn't felt this excited in a while. Her entire time here so far was being told just how crappy the future is. Seeing teammates that immediately let her know the future? Yeah, it wasn't so great.
So to meet someone that... well, he didn't know anything about her. But he understood. And he had a great sense of humor. That was something to be excited for. She was already changing her destiny by being here. By meeting him for coffee.
So she's hanging outside the café a few minutes early, clicking around on the network to pass the time without appearing too eager.
[There was just something about the way her profile said that she's trying to have a say in his own destiny that reminds him of how he'd felt for the day before he died. The sense of helplessness, the inability to change things, and then when Stein had told him that he was the only one who could truly change his own future - well, he'd been right, but the future Eddie chose was no future at all.
Now he's a little lost. Destiny...it's a touchy subject. But she sounds like she might understand, and it's nice to think that someone might.
It's a casual date, or feels like it, so he dresses casually. Nice jeans, a Henley, a leather jacket - not trying too hard, but trying enough that she feels worth trying for. As he comes up to the café, he's lifting a hand to wave at her, his smile bright, and he jogs the last few steps.]
Hey, Kendra, right? [Extending a hand for a shake, he tilts his head, eyes on her face.] Your photo did not do you justice.
[Casual was definitely the way to go. She's wearing a green cropped sweater and high waist jeans, nothing too fancy... Not for the gravity this coffee date might hit. Kendra smiles when she sees him, tucking her phone away as he jogs up to her.]
Eddie. [She accepts that hand and laughs, a little bashfully, at just how sincere the compliment was.] That's sweet- thank you. It's nice to meet you in person and not just behind a phone screen.
[After a quick shake and a little squeeze, he lets go of her hand, and tucks his hands against his belt, shifts his hips a little to adjust as he rests his hands on his hips. It's almost instinctive, after years of wearing a gun belt at work.]
You're welcome.
[And it is true. She's really stunning in person, he can't help but notice the unique fashion and how flattering it is on her. Eddie's the type of guy who can appreciate flattering and unique fashion.
Stepping toward the door, he gestures toward it, then pulls it open, letting her go in first and then following her inside, continuing the conversation as he does.]
Same to you. It's always a little nicer in person, I think. Body language. Is that weird to say? I hope it's not weird.
[The stance doesn't go unnoticed, but perhaps that's because she remembers him mentioning he's a cop on his own cuddlr profile. She can imagine that old habits die hard, after all.
She thanks him as she walks into the shop, laughing a little at what he said.]
It would've been weird to say on the phone. So I definitely get what you mean. Besides, it feels more personable to chat in... you know. Person.
[Not too old a habit - he's a cop here, too. It just felt right, even though there's not really all that much police work to be done in a place like this.
It's a relief when she laughs, and he laughs along with her, his eyes bright. Slipping in behind her, he lets the door shut and moves just behind her, letting her make her way toward the counter first.]
Okay, well, good to know I'm only half weird. [A little grin, before he continues.] And yeah, I definitely like chatting in person more. As for coffee...I do like a pumpkin spice latte, but I think I'm in the mood for something with a bit more caffeine. I'm thinking Americano. How about you?
[Kendra stands with her hands in her back pockets, looking up at the menu as she decides what to order. She can't help but laugh at the pumpkin spice comment, glancing back up at him as she does so.]
I'll forgo the pumpkin spice this time too- I'm feeling the need for a flat white. [She smiles a little bit more as he insists it's his treat.] Thank you.
Really? I wouldn't think it from looking at you. Then again, there's always more than meets the eye.
[A little grin, and he steps up to the counter, his fingertips brushing at her elbow, a mild encouragement to come with. He orders for them quickly, and pays without missing a beat, so they can continue their conversation.]
No problem. I haven't tried a flat white yet, what's it like?
[She muses as she follows him to the counter. Perhaps she's able to be more open, more coy, about her powers here- but she's not entirely sure she wants to be. It's a pretty much ongoing, internal struggle.]
It's like... A cross between a cappuccino and a latte. I'm just whipping out fancy ex-barista terminology on you. Feel free to tell me if I'm getting too pretentious.
[When she explains what a flat white is, he shakes his head a little.]
No, of course not. This is a subject I have a deep interest in, believe me. And now I wish I'd asked you that earlier, because that sounds really good.
[If you can call hundreds of past lives and a pair of wings sprouting from her back at will a "little mystery". She grins a little more at him and holds back a laugh.]
I'll let you try mine and then you'll know for next time. Deal?
Okay, I'll give you that, but I'm warning you, it's just going to make me more interested.
[He grins at her a little, eyes bright as they head over to the handoff plane. It's a crooked, teasing, flirtatious little smile, and he can't help it. She's pretty, and she really piqued his interest.]
Sounds perfect. You know, it's not fair that I can't introduce you to any fancy coffee drinks. I'm definitely going to have to take you out for craft beers to even the score.
And you say that like you think it isn't. I'm glad.
[This is nice, flirting with a pretty woman while they grab coffee together, and when she responds with that little self-deprecating comment, he shakes his head. Laughs softly.]
Alright, well, I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy spending some time with you, but if you really, really want me to, I'll reserve judgement until after we swap stories about evading destiny.

Date: 2016-10-09 05:18 am (UTC)It's hard to argue that logic. Do they even have good microbrews here? Is that a universal thing?

Date: 2016-10-09 05:34 am (UTC)And we should get together and chat over coffee- about destiny or whatever comes to mind... I'm sorry you can sympathize, though.

Date: 2016-10-09 05:41 am (UTC)I'd love to grab a coffee. And thanks for the sympathies, it's kind of a sore subject. But it's why I'm here too. To change mine.
When are you free?

Date: 2016-10-09 05:50 am (UTC)I can understand... And you know? Maybe this place will actually pull through.
Does the day after tomorrow work for you? I'm free that afternoon.

Date: 2016-10-09 05:52 am (UTC)I hope so. A friend of mine told me he's already had a wish granted, and he's back for another one. So who knows?
Yeah, absolutely. Where would you like to meet up?

Date: 2016-10-09 06:04 am (UTC)That's comforting- like... really comforting. Not even in the sarcastic sense of the word.
Let's start with coffee? Is Bean and Gone okay?

Date: 2016-10-09 06:05 am (UTC)Yeah. It was really nice to hear, especially on my first day here. Especially considering what my incentive is.
Absolutely. How does 2pm sound?

Date: 2016-10-09 06:15 am (UTC)Well now I'm jealous- I got nothing but horrible news right after I got here!
2 pm sounds perfect. I'll see you there.

Date: 2016-10-09 06:18 am (UTC)Really? I'm sorry to hear that. If you want to talk, I've been told I'm a good listener.
Looking forward to it!
